šŸˆ Close Games, Big Totals, Valuable Player Props

Plus the NBA stars sidelined by injuries, and who benefits from the extra touches

The injury report hit hard this week, and some of the league’s biggest stars will be out for a while. That’s bad news for their teams, but it opens the door for other players to get more of the ball.

Start in Minnesota, where Anthony Edwards will miss an unknown amount of time after knee surgery. He was the league’s second-leading scorer, so no injury leaves more points behind. LaMelo Ball takes over as the center of the offense, which should push up both his scoring and his assists, while Jonathan Kuminga can also expect an increase in shot attempts.

Oklahoma City has already shown what life without Jalen Williams looks like. In the first game after Williams broke his fibula, Ajay Mitchell scored a career-high 30 in just 25 minutes, and his playing time will only go up.

Orlando lost two starters at once, with Paolo Banchero out four to six weeks and Jalen Suggs out about two. For Franz Wagner, the injuries clear up a long-running fit problem: he no longer has to share the ball. He’s now the team’s lead ballhandler and Desmond Bane is the only reliable shooter left in the starting five. Expect him to be taking a lot more threes.

Utah was already missing a key part of its frontcourt with Jusuf Nurkic out. Now Jaren Jackson Jr. has a torn MCL, and Lauri Markkanen is day-to-day with a sprained wrist. That makes Keyonte George the safest bet, with Ace Bailey and rookie Darryn Peterson getting plenty of extra minutes.

Elsewhere, Kawhi Leonard’s knee makes Scottie Barnes Toronto’s top option, and Jalen Duren’s hamstring injury opens up minutes for Detroit’s Paul Reed. In Indiana, Pascal Siakam should benefit with Ivica Zubac out, but so many Pacers are hurt that it may not make a difference.

The season just started, but make sure you check the injury report before locking in your NBA bets!

šŸˆ Three Pass Catchers to Target on Sunday

Close games with plenty of points mean quarterbacks keep throwing all four quarters, and that’s when pass catchers pile up stats.

Coleman has been a different player at home. He’s cleared this line in all three games at Highmark Stadium this season, averaging 72 yards. He’s also gone over in four of his last five games overall, with a 56.4-yard average.

The Ravens’ pass defense is average at best, ranking 16th in passing yards allowed and 22nd in completion rate allowed. Buffalo is also coming off a bye, so Josh Allen has had two weeks to prepare. The one concern is volume. The Bills rank 30th in pass attempts because they rarely need to throw much. With a total of 54.5, though, this matchup should keep Allen throwing, and Coleman’s big frame makes him a natural target.

Arizona throws more than anyone in the league, averaging 40 attempts a game, and McBride gets more of those targets than anyone else on the team. He’s averaging 8.4 catches a game and has cleared this number in five of seven games.

Dallas allows the third-highest completion rate in the league, and with its offense against Arizona’s last-ranked scoring defense, the Cardinals will probably be playing from behind and throwing even more.

Atlanta stops the run well but gives up a lot through the air, allowing the third-most passing yards and the second-most catches in the league. Godwin is the Bucs’ most reliable receiver, and he’s cleared this line in five of seven games this season, including three of four at home. Tampa Bay’s passing game is short and conservative, but those quick throws tend to go to Godwin.

šŸ”„ Stefon Diggs Anytime Touchdown on Sunday Night

Commanders vs. Eagles won’t be a pretty primetime game. These are two of the league’s worst teams by DVOA, the total sits at 40.5, and Philadelphia’s offense is stuck with Tanner McKee and a banged-up group of skill players. In a low-scoring game, you want the player who gets the ball when his team gets close. For Washington, that’s clearly Stefon Diggs.

Diggs has scored in three of his five games this season, and all four of his touchdowns came in the red zone. He’s caught all five of his red-zone targets this season, so when Jayden Daniels looks his way close to the end zone, the ball is likely getting caught.

His role is only growing. With Terry McLaurin on IR and Treylon Burks questionable, Diggs is the clear top option, and he’s already averaging 7.6 targets a game. Daniels has also played well against Philadelphia before, including a five-touchdown game in 2024. He’s thrown seven total touchdowns without an interception in his four starts this season.

The matchup works, too. The Eagles have allowed 11 passing touchdowns and rank 25th in yards per reception allowed, which means receivers can find room after the catch. The risk is that Washington leans on the run near the goal line, since Philadelphia’s run defense is soft.
