⛳️ Golf's Most Brutal Test Tees Off
A Grand Slam chase begins, World Cup chaos resumes, plus MLB props tonight
The 126th U.S. Open tees off this morning at Shinnecock Hills, and the USGA has made a big decision. Rather than letting the greens bake into the glassy, ball-rejecting nightmare Shinnecock is infamous for, officials are watering between waves and dialing the green speeds down with friendlier pin placements. The move is partly defensive, with stiff wind forecast all four days, but the effect could be substantial.
Receptive greens reward players who can stop the ball near the flag. That tilts the edge toward the elite iron players and short-game artists rather than the bombers. The cleanest fit is tournament favorite, Scottie Scheffler, chasing the career Grand Slam this week. He leads the field in approach play and ranks at the very top in around-the-green metrics. The wind is the one variable that can level him, but his game will benefit from the softer green conditions.
Rory McIlroy is the next name we can’t go without mentioning. His towering ball flight holds receptive greens beautifully, but will be more impacted by the wild winds throughout the weekend. He should get some help from the slower green surfaces, although even he isn’t sure what to make of the course plan this week.
The best value this week is in Matt Fitzpatrick. He’s a former U.S. Open champ who beat Scheffler and McIlroy at Brookline, and he's riding a scorching stretch of two wins and two runner-ups across his last nine starts. Fitzpatrick has finished in the Top 20 in four of his last five Majors. He sits near the top of this field in both tee-to-green and around-the-green play, exactly the skills this setup rewards.
Wind will still wreak havoc this week, so consider top-10 or top-20 markets to soften the variance for any plays.

⚾️ Hot Hitters with Soft Matchups Tonight
Two hitter props stand out tonight, both backed by hot batting trends and friendly pitching matchups.
Francisco Alvarez has been easing back into the lineup for the Mets and is ready to go today in Philadelphia. He's been locked in since rejoining the team, reaching base safely in six of his last seven games while hitting .320 with a .370 on-base mark. Alvarez also travels well, his batting average goes up over 50 points to .282 when he plays on the road.
The main draw tonight is Aaron Nola, a premier righty, but Alvarez has handled him before, going 1-for-4 with a homer in their limited history. Citizens Bank Park does the rest, ranking among the most hitter-friendly venues in the league and boosting both hits and home runs. With Lindor on the IL, Alvarez is carrying more of load, and his exit velocity near 91 mph means his contact finds grass.
Jac Caglianone has been scorching, hitting .370 in June with 20 knocks already. He's cleared this line in 70 percent of his last 20 games with an average of 1.2 hits per game.
His underlying numbers explain why he’s doing so well. Jac has an elite contact rate, nearly 70%, and powerful exit velocity topping out at 116 mph. He goes up against lefty Matthew Liberatore, who doesn't miss many bats. Caglianone has gone over in both meetings with the Cardinals this year, averaging 1.5 hits, and Kauffman Stadium plays slightly above league average for hits.
Two disciplined contact bats, two vulnerable arms, and two parks that reward balls in play. Combine both for a nice plus-odds option tonight.

⚽️ World Cup Group Stage Chaos Continues
We cashed both World Cup bets last time, and we’ve now seen everyone play their first game of the tournament which gives us a little more intel.
First up, Czechia versus South Africa in Atlanta, virtually an elimination match with both sides stuck on zero points. Czechia led South Korea before fading late to a 2-1 defeat, while South Africa was beaten 2-0 by Mexico and finished with only nine men on the field. Sphephelo Sithole and Themba Zwane both saw red against Mexico and are suspended for this one, gutting an attack that already failed to find the net. Zwane's absence stings most, stripping away their most experienced creator.
Czechia carries the physical and aerial edge. They led all of UEFA qualifying in set-piece goals, and already headed one home in the opener. Superior pedigree, deeper European experience, and two missing South African starters. I’m leaning towards Czechia moneyline around -125.
The marquee tie tonight is co-host Mexico versus South Korea in Guadalajara, both with three points and fighting for the group lead. Mexico looked sharp in their win, posting their best passing accuracy in a World Cup match on record. It wasn’t all roses, as Captain César Montes was sent off in stoppage time for denying a goalscoring chance and is suspended for tonight’s game. Despite that, the hosts will be galvanized on home soil to continue putting on a show for their fans.
Rather than pick a side at plus odds, I like both teams to score at roughly even money. Their most recent meeting finished 2-2 in 2025, South Korea has scored in three straight, and Montes's absence opens a real seam for Son to attack. South Korea thrives in transition, with Son Heung-min ready to exploit any open gap. Take the goals tonight with both teams to score at -105.
