🏈 Mahomes Returns to Arrowhead Tonight

MNF Insights and player props plus a look at today's EPL fixture

Denver arrives at Arrowhead off a 14-3 season that ended in the AFC Championship game, while Kansas City is trying to move past a 6-11 year that snapped a string of dominance in this division. Patrick Mahomes makes his return from a torn ACL and LCL, and his welcome back party is a Denver defense that has led the league in sacks in back to back seasons.

The records overstate the gap between these two teams. Denver's point differential ranked seventh in the league, Kansas City's twelfth, and the Broncos got there partly by winning eleven one score games, tying a mark that will be tough to repeat. The Chiefs finished with a positive point differential despite the losing record, suggesting close game execution was the real issue, not a talent gap.

Denver's calling card is its pass rush, leading the NFL in sacks, pressures, and pressure rate by wide margins. Their lone weakness is third down defense, where they ranked near the bottom of the league, relying on negative plays rather than sustained stops.

Kansas City's defense was much better than its record indicated, ranking near the top of the league in tackling and third down defense, but its pass rush was a bottom third unit, and the secondary lost several starters this offseason, including Trent McDuffie. While their offense is expected to be better, their defense could be taking a step back this season.

Offensively, Denver protects the quarterback better than anyone in football and just added Jaylen Waddle to fix a passing attack that lacked explosiveness. Kansas City brings in Kenneth Walker to finally give Mahomes a workhorse back, but a patchwork offensive line will be tested immediately against the league's most disruptive front.

Historically this series leans toward the under, with seven of the last ten meetings staying below the game total betting line.

🏈 MNF Player Props at Arrowhead

Both defenses were legit last season, and both quarterbacks are playing their first game back from major injuries.

Nix cleared this number in 7 of his last 10 games to end last season, averaging over 37 attempts in that stretch, and his season long average last year sits right around 36.5. As a visitor, he's gone over this total in 5 of 8 games, and Denver as an underdog on the road typically means more dropbacks, not fewer.

Kansas City's defense invites this kind of volume, allowing one of the highest completion percentages in the league and ranking top five in plays faced per game. Denver's offense was already the fourth most pass heavy in football last year, and now they have a new star on the receiving end of those passes with the signing of Jaylen Waddle.

Walker's raw touchdown rate over his last several games doesn't scream value at this price, but the role has completely changed. Kansas City just signed him to a nine figure deal to be the clear lead back, something this offense hasn't had in years, and he's coming off a Super Bowl MVP performance loaded with goal line work.

Denver's pass rush is one of the best in football, which actually helps this bet. With a rookie protecting Mahomes' blind side, expect Kansas City to lean on quick throws and a committed ground game to keep him upright, funneling touches and short yardage looks directly to Walker.

Bryant heated up as a rookie, stacking catches down the stretch and posting his best game of the year against this very Chiefs defense. He cleared this number in 8 of his last 10 outings, and his full season average already sits above the line at 27.5. With the Chief’s secondary depleted by offseason departures and Bryant positioned as the clear third option in a pass heavy offense, this looks like a value play on the board at plus odds.

⚽️ The Other Monday Night Football

Two sides sitting level on points meet today, and both have completely reshaped how they play since last season.

Newcastle enters under new manager Matthias Jaissle after gutting their midfield, selling both Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali over the summer. The early returns have been strong on the surface, unbeaten across five matches, but the underlying numbers suggest they're overperforming. They've scored six Premier League goals from barely three expected goals worth of chances, converting at a rate that simply doesn't hold up long term.

Leeds, meanwhile, have settled into a back three under Daniel Farke that's conceded just twice all season. Their home form is the backbone of this team, unbeaten in their last five at Elland Road.

The matchup does expose a real weakness for Newcastle. Their inexperienced midfield pairing has barely played together, and Newcastle's away form has been poor for over a year now, winning only a handful of road matches recently. Leeds building out from the back could create exactly the kind of pressing opportunities Newcastle's attack has thrived on.

🔥 Both Teams to Score: Yes

Both sides have seen goals at both ends regularly to start off this season, and given Newcastle's shaky new midfield paired with an efficient but fragile attack, and Leeds' comfort creating chances at home, I like both teams to find the net here.
