š Week 1 Was Wild. Now What?
Week 1 shocks, Commanders-Packers TNF, and Week 2 Survivor picks.
Thereās something magical about sports when history gets made. Records arenāt just numbers on a stat sheet, theyāre proof that you just witnessed something rare, maybe even once-in-a-lifetime. Think about Daniel Jones and the Colts this weekend: seven straight scoring drives. No quarterback this century has done it, and he snapped Indyās decade-long curse in the process.
Then youāve got Aaron Rodgers still etching his name into the record books. Four touchdowns, no picks, and now heās tied with Tom Brady for the most games of that kind in NFL history. Heās also neck-and-neck with Peyton Manning for four-plus TD outings.
Even rookies are leaving their mark. J.J. McCarthy may not have blown up the box score, but becoming the first quarterback ever to score three fourth-quarter TDs in his debut is the kind of stat thatāll be remembered.
And donāt forget Jalen Hurts. Sixteen games with multiple rushing TDs is the most ever by a quarterback. In an era where mobile QBs keep redefining the position, Hurts is outpacing everyone who came before him.
Every Sunday, someone has the chance to break a record, snap a streak, or carve their name into history. And when it happens, youāre watching the game evolve.

š§ Thursday Night Showdown in Green Bay
Week 1 gave us a glimpse of two teams that look sharp to start the season. Washington smothered the Giants with a defense that suddenly looked revitalized, holding them to just six points and flashing a pass rush that never let up. Jayden Daniels added his own spark, not just with his arm but with his legs, proving he can tilt games when the play breaks down.
On the other side, Green Bay rolled past Detroit in a statement win, pairing Jordan Loveās confident command of the offense with the instant impact of Micah Parsons, who made life miserable for Jared Goff from the opening snap.
When you put those performances side by side, it sets up Thursday night as a clash of two teams trending upward, both with momentum and game-changing stars. Letās break it down further and spotlight the plays worth targeting.
Jacory Croskey-Merritt Over 42.5 Rushing Yards
Jaxonās Take: Croskey-Merritt, aka āBillā, exploded for 82 yards in Week 1 and instantly became the centerpiece of Washingtonās ground game. The Commanders piled up 220 rushing yards as a team, and Billās volume suggests his role isnāt a fluke. Yes, Green Bayās run defense just bottled up Detroit, but 42.5 is a soft line. If Washington leans on him again, this over has real value.
My Take: Bill has only played one game but has already earned the trust of his coaches and team. I donāt think they suddenly go away from him after a big debut week. Heās widely expected to be the Commandersā RB1 and may be on track for higher volume faster than anticipated.
Austin Ekeler Over 45.5 Rushing + Receiving Yards
Jaxonās Take: Ekelerās dual-threat ability was on full display in Week 1 with 57 combined yards. Heās cleared this number in 80% of his last 15 games, averaging nearly 60 per outing. Even with the questionable tag, when heās on the field heās heavily involved, and Washingtonās offense looked explosive enough to keep feeding him. At just 45.5, this line leaves plenty of room for him to hit the over on either the ground or through the air.
My Take: Ekeler seems like the go-to receiving back while Bill will be getting the bulk of the carries (if Daniels doesnāt just run it himself). I donāt expect Daniels to have much time to make decisions which could coincide with more short targets for Ekeler.
Romeo Doubs Over 41.5 Receiving Yards
Jaxonās Take: Doubs opened the year with 68 yards from 2 receptions, clearing this line with room to spare, and history says heās more likely than not to repeat it. With Christian Watson sidelined, Doubsā target share only figures to climb, and Jordan Loveās Week 1 efficiency makes this spot even more appealing. At 41.5, the bar is set low for a receiver who should be involved.
My Take: Love looks comfortable, and Doubs is his big-play guy right now. Iād bet this line doesnāt stay this low for long with Christian Watson out.
Jordan Love Under 30.5 Passing Attempts
Jaxonās Take: Love didnāt need volume to shine in Week 1, tossing just 22 passes while carving up Detroitās defense with efficiency. Heās stayed under this mark in 8 of his last 10 games, and 10 of his last 15 overall. Green Bay showed theyāre comfortable leaning on the run and dialing things back with a lead, and Washingtonās defense could also suppress possessions. The under looks like the sharper side here.
My Take: Green Bay wants to play smart, balanced football, not air it out. Unless Washington forces a shootout, I think Love stays under again. You can get better value finding Under 29.5 at about -110.
š² The Pine Line
š± 49ers win the battle, but lose their QB? San Franciscoās victory came at a cost.
šø Big money, big promises. The NHLās waiting for something real before Atlanta gets a third shot.
ā¾ The Yankeesā Top-5 HR list stood untouched since 1966⦠until last night.
š„¶ QB Drama already? Ugly Week 1 sparked controversy in New York.
𤮠āSpitgateā resolved. One loogie = one game check.
š āThis is Christmas Day for us.ā The NHLās new CBA finally delivers a safety net for former players.
š„ TNF Endzone Seekers
The best way to sweat a primetime game? Pick whoās crossing the goal line. Here are my two favorite bets to light up the scoreboard on TNF.
Josh Jacobs - First Touchdown Scorer (Odds: +325)
Iām using a DraftKings No Sweat Bet for this play. Josh Jacobs is riding a ridiculous heater with nine straight games scoring a touchdown. Green Bay leaned on him immediately in Week 1.
The Commanders defense ranked bottom-five against the run last season which puts him in the perfect spot to keep the streak alive. With the Packers running nearly a third of their snaps in the red zone last week, Jacobs has a real shot to hit paydirt first.
Deebo Samuel - Anytime Touchdown (Odds: +175)
Deebo Samuel is already proving to be Washingtonās offensive spark. Ten targets, 77 receiving yards, plus a 19-yard rushing score in his debut ā the Commanders clearly want the ball in his hands. Between his dual-threat skillset and Jayden Danielsā quick-hit passing style, Deebo feels like a strong anytime TD play at +175. Iām taking this at over +200 after a boost.
š Survivor Pool Week 2
Both of our picks survived Week 1! The Broncos took care of business at home against Tennessee, and the Cardinals handled the Saints just as expected. A clean 2-for-2 start, and now itās on to Week 2.
I expect the Ravens to be one of the most popular selections this weekend, but Iām passing. Theyāre double-digit favorites (-10.5) but divisional games bring more risk and Cleveland has taken two of the last three meetings. Iād rather save Baltimore for a better spot (like Week 9 in Miami).
Path A: Arizona Cardinals (-6.5 vs CAR)
Carolina canāt buy a road win. Theyāve lost 16 of their last 18 away games. In Week 1, Bryce Young threw two picks and only completed 18 of 35 pass attempts as the Panthers only scored 10 points.
The Cardinals leaned on a balanced attack and tough defense to beat the Saints 20-13. Kyler Murray threw two TD passes and chipped in on the ground as they ran for 146 yards as a team at 5.4 yards per carry. Arizona looks like the more complete team heading into Week 2 and should be able to control the game.
Path B: Los Angeles Rams (-5.5 at TEN)
The Titans have dropped 16 of their last 20, including a brutal 1-7 home record last year where they were outscored 184 to 128. Week 1 wasnāt much better, rookie QB Cam Ward completed just 12 passes and was sacked six times.
The Rams opened with a gritty 14-9 win over Houston, holding the Texans under 10 points and generating three sacks of their own. Against Tennesseeās leaky O-line, and with all their offensive firepower, L.A. feels like the safer Survivor play.
Records fall every week in the NFL.
The only question is which oneās next. What stat or streak do you think gets broken this season? Let us know on X @PineSports_Ai or in the Pine Sports Discord.
